Flood Insurance

Floods are the number one natural disaster in America and every year, thousands of people who don’t live in flood zones suffer flood loss without coverage. Most homeowners policies exclude coverage for flood; therefore, you need to purchase a separate flood insurance policy if you want protection against the damage and financial devastation flooding can cause. It only takes a few inches of water to cost thousands and sometimes even hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Call our office to speak with a licensed agent about this important coverage. Please be advised, there is usually a 30-day waiting period from the date of purchase before your flood policy goes into effect.

Different Types of Flood Insurance Policies

Depending on your home's location and flood loss history, the following policies may be available:

  • Standard Flood Insurance - available if you live in a community that participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) - most communities participate. Standard Flood Insurance can protect your home, up to $250,000 and/or contents, up to $100,000. If additional coverage is needed, Excess Flood Insurance may be available for purchase.
  • Preferred Risk Flood Insurance - like Standard Flood Insurance but available if you live in a low-risk or moderate-risk zone for a preferred rate.
  • Private Flood Insurance - now available in New York State - alternative to buying a government-backed policy.
