Renters Insurance

Renters Insurance

Renters Insurance provides coverage for an insured's contents (furniture, electronics, clothing, jewelry, etc.), living expenses if displaced due to a covered loss and personal liability.  There are limitations on theft for jewelry, fine arts, furs, silverware, etc. - we can help you schedule these items for full protection.

Your landlord's insurance policy protects the structure and their liability.  Usually, covering everything outside “your walls” is their responsibility, and everything inside your walls is yours.

If you are looking for a more comprehensive insurance plan that offers additional or specific coverage, our agents at Brooks Robb & Callahan can help you find the plan that best aligns with your insurance needs.

Cost of Replacing Your Contents

If you take inventory of your contents, they may not be worth much. However, that’s different compared to how much it would cost to replace everything. Be sure your renters policy includes replacement cost on contents. Replacement cost is the cost to repair or replace the damaged property at the time of loss, without depreciation.

Coverage for your personal property may include losses caused by:

  • Fire or lightning

  • Weight of ice, snow, or sleet

  • Explosion

  • Aircraft and vehicles

  • Smoke

  • Sudden and accidental tearing or bulging of heating or cooling systems

  • Windstorm or hail

  • Theft

  • Riot or civil commotion

  • Falling objects

  • Vandalism or malicious mischief

  • Sudden and accidental water discharge from plumbing or appliances

  • Freezing of plumbing systems

These losses will be subject to your deductible.

You’ll be surprised at how affordable renters insurance can be.  Besides covering your belongings, it will protect you if you are held liable for causing bodily injury or property damage to someone else.
